Tasty and healthy! Research from Pennsylvania State University shows that pistachios are good for your cholesterol because they are packed with antioxidants.
The scientists investigated the effect of pistachios on antioxidant levels in the blood. They got the study participants to follow three different diets in three months:a regular cholesterol-lowering diet without nuts, a comparable diet with 42 grams of pistachios and one with 78 grams of pistachios.
The tests showed that the participants had much more antioxidants in their blood after the pistachio diets and that their cholesterol is significantly lower used to be.
The pistachios turned out to have a cholesterol-lowering effect because antioxidants protect cells from free radical damage.
